We are getting ready to start planning out our garden layout, so we will be ready when spring rolls around.  I’ve taken some pictures of the different view points of our yard.  Above is a view from 2nd floor.

Golden Gates…

We went to Golden Gates last weekend for Slava’s 25th birthday celebration.  This was my first time at a Russian restaurant (aside from Slava’s wedding).

Starting to dig into our 8 hour, multi-course meal.  If you want to drink you bring your own (I opted to bring a bottle of sauvignon blanc in my Longchamp), if you have a large party you can bring as much as you like.

The band came on to play many Russian/Jewish favorites, and lots of Tina Turner cover songs.   I highly recomend going if you have a huge group of friends, and are looking for a Euro experience without having to travel far.

Merry Christmas!

Hi Everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!  We still don’t have internet at the house, but soon we will and I’ll have more posts to share with you on our latest projects.

Concept…

Working through the concept of our home is one of the strangest things…it requires you to think about what it is that you really like. The renting process is so different, you look for things that aren’t awful…whereas when you have the chance to completely take over a space you really have to know what you love and hate. The first part of any creative project usually begins with color. It’s been a really interesting process for the home, because unlike fashion home design needs to be about a certain sense of permanence. We look to our home as a cozy space, perfect for coming home to after a long day, and relaxing, entertaining, and enjoying. I’m thinking that we are going to end up with a space more neutral than expected.
We’ve narrowed our palette down to the Eddie Bauer and Pottery Barn paint selections. Eddie Bauer is available at Lowe’s and Pottery Barn paints are available at Benjamin Moore. I sent Leo over to Benjamin Moore to pick up the paint book yesterday. The woman working the counter says that all the wives send their husbands in, and that the end result is that the wives are surprised that their homes don’t look like the pottery barn catalog. I’m planning on getting some small test cans and seeing how these colors really look on the walls.

First house…

Leo and I have been looking at houses for as long as we’ve known each other. We’ve finally found one that suits our style, and is raw enough for us to put our own imprint on it. Over the next couple months/year I’ll be posting our process, progress, and adventure.
