Surprise! There’s wallpaper under the paint…

During closing the owners applauded themselves and their care with taking out all the wallpaper and painting the house nicely.  Upon later inspection that day, after we signed the papers, we realized that their statement wasn’t all true.  There was indeed wallpaper in the master bedroom.  So, after chipping a little piece, Leo and I grabbed some spatuala’s and set to picking/scraping the wallpaper (that is covered with a million coats of glossy paint) off the walls.  I actually love the way the plaster looks, we’re thinking about cleaning it all off and leaving it bare.  In this shot you can see the outline of where there once was a mantel.  I’d love to break down the closet built to the right, and re-install a mantel again.

Joey didn’t really seem to know why we were making such a mess.  He spent most of the time hiding from us in the closet.

Paint colors…

Being our first house, we knew we were going to change out minds about paint colors a million times. So, Leo painted some huge pieces of paper with quarts of the paint choices we liked, so that we could hang them up in the house and see what the colors look like at different times of the day.

Although this gold color is really dark, I’m loving how much it makes the fireplace pop off the wall. We pulled back the carpet to see how the floor color will look against the paint. We’re scheduled to have the floors refinished next week, so we are going to be painting like crazy over the holiday weekend to get the walls finished first!

More options for the bedroom. I’m loving the grey tones, very soothing.

For the living and dining room we’ve been looking at really warm cozy golden hues. I’m especially partial to the caramel color. We will be accenting the columns and trim with a warm white. The theme for the house is a mix of metallic hues (I love silver and gold tones mixed together).

The bedrooms will be done in lighter tones.

I’m leaning towards Wicker.

The media room will be a deeper tone which will be great for creating a more masculine space which will be great for relaxing and watching movies (and the Eagles…). The Pine Needle from Eddie Bauer or Wethersflield Moss from Pottery Barn should be great for going with leather accents.
