Golden Gates…

We went to Golden Gates last weekend for Slava’s 25th birthday celebration.  This was my first time at a Russian restaurant (aside from Slava’s wedding).

Starting to dig into our 8 hour, multi-course meal.  If you want to drink you bring your own (I opted to bring a bottle of sauvignon blanc in my Longchamp), if you have a large party you can bring as much as you like.

The band came on to play many Russian/Jewish favorites, and lots of Tina Turner cover songs.   I highly recomend going if you have a huge group of friends, and are looking for a Euro experience without having to travel far.

Getting ready for Thanksgiving…

thanksgiving-table-001.jpg

It’s the night before Thanksgiving, and we just finished setting the table.  I made the linen table runners today, using a glue stick on the edges made the project go really fast.

I made the ‘vase’ by wrapping a paper napkin around a jar, and tied some twine around it to hold it all together.

Table runners…

table_runner_2.jpg

I love the simplicity of this table setting.  It’s great how the table cloth is undersized to show off the beauty of the table and draw the guests closer visually.  All the pictures shown here are from marthastewart.com.

table_runner_1.jpg

I love the color of this table runner, and it’s a great idea to turn two thin ones horizontally on the table.

The gold turkeys are a bit much for my taste, but I love the concept of a rugged table mixed with opulent items.

A cute screenprinting idea.

 To make a simple runner:

1. Determine the size of each runner: For the length, measure the width of your table. Add 12 inches for overhang and 1 inch for seam allowance (1/2″ all-around).  If you have some newsprint or craft paper, you can make a simple pattern piece by folding it until you are happy with the overall look (and then add your seam allowance to the final ‘pattern’).

2. Cut fabric to size, then press under 1/2-inch seam allowance on all 4 sides of fabric and topstitch (or you can use a fusible hemming tape, or even a glue stick can will work if you don’t happen to have a sewing machine).

Bedroom furniture…

Our bedroom is a bit oversized, and we don’t have much to fill it with at the moment, but I’m loving this picture.  The turq color is great, and I love that it’s cozied by the furry throw.

Here are some other pictures from our day at Terrain (for wreath pictures, check out the post over at Seamsters). I love this bright inviting arrangement.

I saw a picture in last years Domino mag of a yarn wrapped tree that I loved, here is another take of that same idea.

Who knew lobster trap furniture was a trend?…

lobster_trap_table.jpg

I spotted this lobster trap table over at the Antiquarium in Philadelphia.  I thought it was so clever, until I realized that it’s actually oddly common to make furniture out of such traps.  I googled it, and there is even a site that makes nothing but lobster trap furniture, lobsterfurniture.com.

Front Door…

options.jpg

We’ve been agonizing over the perfect front door option.  Currently  (as shown below) we have a storm door with awful bars, a red wood door with decorative carvings with marble-textured yellow glass, and our transom is painted over with white high gloss paint.  So, anything would be an improvement.  Above are a few mocks (all with a transom, the top two being solid doors, and the bottom doors being two different styles of dutch doors).

I love this minimal looking chair, it’s by Paola Navone for Gervasoni

And, as cliche as it is I always love photos and prints of silverware.  I also love the minimal look this arangement, it’s from restaurant Panne e Acqua.

Loving this look…

I’m loving this image.  I’m normally not a table cloth sort of girl since our table is so amazing on it’s own, but I’ve been toying around with the idea of screenprinting a runner for special holidays.
